House Hunt

We have been looking for a house for a while now. We finally found the one we want, and after counter-counter offering, we are waiting to hear back if we will get it! Hopefully we will know tomorrow one way or the other.

Our small group lesson was perfect this week. It was the story of Gideon, and it was all about how God gives us peace when we feel inadequate/worried/insecure/doubtful/discouraged. Through much prayer, David and I have left this home decision completely to God. What a relief to know that we are not in control of this situation, and all we have to do is pray and listen for direction. Thank you to all our friends and family who are praying for us too! I will update with (hopefully good) news soon!

In Good Hands

The plan today was to fill in for Lori and babysit Amy's sweet daughter Rachel. I decided I was actually running early so I should treat myself to some breakfast. Well as I was planning my turn to the McDonald's, some courteous drivers stopped and waved me through to the parking lot. I proceeded to turn when, CRASH!!! We were jolted violently and tilted with the impact of another car smashing into the passenger side of ours. Then in panicked slow motion, I got out of the car and opened the back seat door to find my little precious baby in tears, wailing but safe and secure in her car seat. I dialed 911. I looked over to see the woman in the other car disoriented but talking on the phone. Her airbags had deployed. The tears came. Soon enough the police and fire truck arrived. I remember thinking, Why is there a fire truck here? I called Amy to apologize and tell her what happened. She immediately offered to come pick us up. I left a message with David's school, and before I knew it he was on his way too. The paramedics quickly examined Brooke and said she looked fine.

Wait a minute...my baby was fine? I was fine? Turns out the other woman was fine too. What a miracle! We were safe and unharmed.
From this point time went a lot faster. Everyone else took care of things from here. Amy took Brooke and watched her in her car. Meanwhile she found another friend to babysit Rachel for the day. The policemen called the wrecker. The wrecker called the service place. David came with a big hug and cleared out our bags and car seat from the car. Then he said, "Let's get some breakfast." So the three of us finally had that breakfast I had set out to enjoy.
When we got home I knew I had a call to make other than the insurance claims. You see, my selfless and generous parents are lending me their car. Oops. I was afraid to call Dad, so I called Mom first. She assured me that all they cared about was mine and Brooke's safety, she loved us soo much, and she would call Dad. Dad called a few minutes later and said about the same thing. Don't worry. Everything will be fine.
God showed us love and protection today, just like every day but I really noticed it this day. He showed me just how much everyone around us cares. I am enjoying every minute of being home with Brooke today. I need to remember just how blessed we are, and that we are always in good hands.

30 something days to go...

Well, I decided to incorporate something from my spiritual upbringing back into my life: Lent. I am very vulnerable to distractions of this world, and I felt that I needed to focus more on Jesus, quiet time, and strengthening my faith and dependence on God. I had to choose something to give up for about 40 days (Sundays are not counted in the total #, sigh), and easily Diet Dr. Pepper came to mind. It is my fix. It is my crutch. It is my addiction. So I decided to quit DDP and all other caffeinated or carbonated drinks. A week ago Tuesday I had my last sip until Easter.  I know my 40 some-odd days without soda seriously pales in comparison with Jesus' time in the wilderness, but it will be no easy feat for me. Good thing I won't be on my own.

Princess Retreat

This weekend I attended our church's annual Ladies Retreat. As usual, I had a wonderful time in worship and in fellowship with my sisters in Christ. I am very thankful for this opportunity, and I am also thankful that I have a husband that thinks it is very important too. I didn't stay overnight for a couple of reasons--baby at home & saving $$--but I think I will make it a point to stay next year because I know I missed out on some serious slumber partying.

Anyway, a couple of big points I took from the speaker, Sue Bohlin and some wise women of our church...
1) Analogy I have heard before but thought about in a different way this weekend--Our Lord is the King of kings, and as His child, I am a princess. I was perfectly made and designed with special effort. Therefore, I have priceless "bling" that is given to me, and I should be careful with it so it will not become tarnished.
2)  Bling Tarnishers--complaining & arguing, unforgiveness, & shame
*** Complaining is telling God that He isn't doing a good enough job.
***Jesus Jail- When I am not forgiving someone, it's like I am a sheriff handcuffed to a prisoner. I have to carry this person and this offense everywhere with me. It is exhausting. But there is an alternative. I can transfer this person to Jesus Jail. This means I have to uncuff myself from this person and this offense from my wrist and place it on Jesus'. I tell Jesus everything this person has done to hurt me, then I hand them over. There is only one condition. I can't worry about what happens to this person. Jesus takes that authority from me. He may choose to forgive, punish, or bless this person, but I have no say. I have to simply walk away knowing that it's out of my hands and I can entrust it with Jesus.
***Shame is believing what the world says about you instead of what God says about you.
3) Chores are blessings. A sink of dirty dishes means my family had enough food to eat this week. An unmade bed=a warm place to sleep. I should do these tasks with joy in my heart knowing I have been provided for.
4) J-O-Y=Jesus is first, Yourself always last, and Others in between.

I left the retreat refreshed and energized.

And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.  -Philipians 4:7

Please Pray!

I have a healthy baby. I am reminded what a blessing this is every time I hear about a baby who isn't. Mom called this afternoon and told me about a childhood friend of mine whose little girl was just diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. Please pray for the Jost family. They really need it right now.

Side note: I started keeping our friends' baby boy two days a week. It is not easy caring for a 4 month old and a seven month old at the same time, but we'll all get used to it eventually. My arms are going to be so strong! Colt is a sweetie, and Brooke has taken a shine to him too. She was watching me pat his back and she started patting him too. Soo cute!

V for Very Good Effort

Well after tonight the Blue team is 2-0! Yeah!
REd team is now 1-1. I heard a parent say as we were leaving that it was good for the boys to lose one game; it will build some character. I think so too.
Well one thing is for sure: they are lucky to have such an awesome coach.
Brooke did so well watching Daddy coach for 3 whole hours. She slept through the beggining of the first game until one crazy 8th grader decided to stand right next to a carseat full of sleeping baby and scream at the top of her lungs. And it was just to get another teeny bopper's attention; nothing was even going on in the game. Well Brooke was frightened and woke up crying. She stayed awake for the rest of that game and the next one too.
We had a busy day today, one of the high points being Ladies Bible Class at church. I am so thankful that I can be involved in this study. Not only does it keep me accountable in my reading, but I am making some new friends. I was very nervous the first time a few weeks ago when none of my familiar friends were there. I look back and realize God just wanted me to branch out and meet some new people. Probably the best part about it is I get to know some of the older ladies of our congregation. I actually feel very comfortable around older ladies. Even when I was teaching, my best friends were the older teachers. It's good to have a variety of friends.
